Resources ~ Mom's Groups
As a new mom, I would wonder how parents became friends when sitting at the park and watching the groups of moms gather and socialize while their kids played together. I didn’t quite know how to find groups of moms with kids around the same age and was growing tired of staying in with my child. So I decided to search the internet and here are my suggestions on how to find a local Mom’s group or a local playgroup for you and your child.
- Mothers of Preschoolers (MOP) - This site is great, there is a nominal fee to join.
- La Leche Groups In PA – This is a support group for breastfeeding moms.
- Moms Club PA –This group has several chapters in PA.
- Playgroups USA –just type in your zip and see what groups are open.
- Meetup –This site has tons of local Mom’s groups on it. Just type in a few keywords
like ‘toddler’ or ‘mom’s group’ and your local area. (ex. Bucks county mom). It
may take a little while to find a group that suits you, but you won’t regret it.
I’ve met a lot of great friends for both my toddler and myself on this site.
- Yahoogroups – This has the same type of groups as meetup.
- Your local church- Most churches have playgroups attached to them, and a good amount
have playgroups that go on during service, after your child is involved with these
groups you can make connections with parents.
- Local playgrounds, Rec. centers, YMCAS
- Local Libraries have story times and playgroups at them.
- Some Hospitals have playgroups associated with them from birth onto preschool. Also,
for most hospital playgroups, you do not have to pick the hospital you gave birth
at and most are free.
- If your child is big enough you can join local sports or dance classes to socialize.
- Create your own group-you can create your own group on many of the above sites.
- Search the internet- type in your town area and playgroup or mom group and you will
be amazed at how many show up.
- I’ve seen some people using craigslist asking for local moms in a certain area to
email them.
Most importantly, the main theme throughout our site, have fun and be safe!
